DR. THOMAS BARRETO
When Dr. Thomas Barreto opened Eyes On Broadway in 1991, he had a fundamental belief that every patient deserved the right to receive the highest quality healthcare he could possibly give them.
Dr. Barreto’s conviction and dedication were immediately recognized by his patients. As word quickly spread, his success validated his efforts–inspiring him to help even more people by enlarging his facility and recruiting more staff who shared his passion. His dream has now grown into one of the most well-respected optometric practices and private businesses in the Northwest. Dr. Barreto has never strayed from his original objective. Today, he remains committed and devoted to his community, practice, patients and friends.
Dr. Barreto received his Doctorate in Optometry in 1986 from Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR. His areas of specialty care include ocular disease management, pre- and post-operative LASIK surgery, and contact lenses.
He is a member of the Oregon Optometric Association and served on its Legislative Committee; the Portland Metropolitan Optometric Association (where he was past president); the Professional Eye Care Associates of America; the American Optometric Association, and VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services for Humanity)–an international non-profit organization comprised of optometrists who fund their own way to travel to third-world countries and provide vision care to thousands of individuals.
DR. LINDY THOMAS
Dr. Lindy Thomas was born in Oregon and raised in Alaska. She received her undergraduate degree from Pacific University and then completed her Doctorate of Optometry from Pacific University College of Optometry in 1998. After graduation she practiced for ten years in Las Vegas, Nevada where she was a partner in a private practice that combined both Ophthalmology and Optometry. She and her husband relocated back to Oregon in 2008 to raise their daughter and be closer to family.
Dr. Thomas enjoys working with patients to get to know them personally to obtain their best vision and ocular health possible. She is proficient in full scope primary care optometry, soft contact lenses, treatment of ocular disease, and the co-management of Lasik and Cataract surgery. Dr. Thomas is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Oregon Optometric Physician Association, and the Nevada Optometric Association.
In addition to practicing optometry, Dr. Thomas enjoys hiking, SUP, and being in nature as much as possible. When indoors she loves to practice yoga, learn to dance Flamenco, and drink a good cappuccino.
DR. HEIDI BOERSMA
Dr. Boersma’s patients truly understand what makes her so special. Many have been coming to her for over nine years, are very loyal, and refuse to see any other doctor.
Dr. Boersma joined Dr. Barreto at Eyes! On Broadway in 1999. As the mother of two young boys, she relates especially well to our youngest patients. Her specialty areas include primary patient care, contact lenses, ocular disease management, and pre -and post-operative LASIK surgery.
After receiving a Bachelor’s degree in 1992 from the University of Oregon, Dr. Heidi put herself through optometry school by working as a dispensing optician for a local optometric practice. There, she absorbed and learned everything she could from her co-workers and doctors, which became the basis of the solid, practical understanding she has in her practice today.
Dr. Heidi volunteers for the West Linn School District and is an active member of the American Optometric Association, the Oregon Optometric Association, and the Professional Eye Care Associates of America.
DR. ALEXA THAVORN
Dr. Alexa Thavorn is super excited to join the Eyes! On Broadway family. She was born and raised in southern Orange County, CA (but don’t hold that against her). She received a Bachelors in Health Science at California State University, Long Beach. In 2016, she packed up her life in her little Honda Civic and moved to the PNW - and never looked back.
Amidst the pandemic, Dr. Thavorn received her Doctorate of Optometry from Pacific University in May 2020. She completed multiple clinical rotations at a variety of locations such as a co-management ophthalmology/optometry practice, an active naval military in Oak Harbor, the Portland VA, and a private family practice in Grants Pass. Also, prior to optometry school she fortunately was able to have 5 years of experience as an optician! Dr. Thavorn enjoys getting to know people and is enthusiastic about forming her own community at Eyes! On Broadway.
In her free time, Dr. Thavorn loves catching up with friends and family. She loves an intense game of chess, enjoys playing tennis, likes a little adventure and hiking, but most of all cooking and eating. You can possibly catch her at some local Portland restaurants. Don’t be shy and say hi!
