THE CHRISTMAS REVELS NORTHERN LIGHTS

With the holiday season firmly upon us, you may find yourself wondering about which events or experiences to seek out and enjoy. Well, the great thing about our city is that there are a lot of options for “getting in the spirit” to connect with something greater than your credit card. Heck, I remember going to a Christmas choir performance on Christmas eve when I was just a kid, and that definitely stuck with me a great deal longer than the train set I got that year. True, one big aspect of the holidays is about giving and receiving, yet the opportunity is there for so much more. Hence, my carefully selected event recommendation today: The Christmas Revels Northern Lights.

Here is a brief summary of the show from the Portland Revels website:

Our 2017 production, The Christmas Revels Nordic Lights, A Celebration of the Winter Solstice, is a mythic journey into the music, dance, and traditions of Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Iceland. Based on an Icelandic myth, the production intertwines one of the most famous villains of Iceland, the ogress Gryla, with a Finnish story of a magical fox and the Northern Lights. The stunning choral and instrumental music spans the Nordic cultures and includes some well-known favorites along with many new discoveries.

Here is a very short but wonderful look at the opening act of a prior Christmas Revels performance here in Portland:
